Former DAX board member Holger Mandel says of generations: There's a lot to learn from boomers – but they also have to give the younger generation a chance. His Millennial mentees took from him: Just do it instead of endlessly pondering.
When Wilma Kaiser returned from her first parental leave , her Boomer boss told her: "My wife wanted to stay with the children." The Millennial (born in 1988) didn't take this well. "I immediately felt like I had to justify myself," recalls Kaiser, then a young project manager at truck manufacturer MAN. Things went very differently on her second parental leave. The then German head of MAN Truck & Bus SE, Holger Mandel, offered her a position with management responsibility and a turnover of up to 150 million euros – even though she had never led a team before. This formative experience not only changed Kaiser's career but also showed her how much young employees can learn from Boomers.
